Website delivery

  • You launch a browser and enter the website's domain name to access it. You may type websitebuilders.com as an example.
  • The Internet is not directly accessible through your browser. It is instead linked to a server that is overseen by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Your point of connection to the Internet is through the ISP's server.
  • After entering the domain name, your browser translates your request into packets of data that contain both your request and any additional data required to process it and ensure that the website you requested returns to you.
  • Once your ISP has received the packet containing your request, it will contact a Domain Name System (DNS) server to determine the precise location, or IP address, of the web server hosting that website.
  • Your ISP transmits your request directly to the web server hosting the website you've requested once it has determined the web server's IP address.
  • After receiving your request, the web server handles any necessary file processing and provides you with a copy of the website you requested. The web server transmits the website files back to your ISP based on the data in your request packet.
  • The files are received by your ISP, who notifies you that they are a response to your request before sending them to your browser.
  • Your browser downloads the web page files, decodes them, and displays the results on the screen.

This whole procedure repeats every time you click on a link or enter a new URL.
